IronPigs Stumble Against Mud Hens 4-1

IRONPIGS STUMBLE AGAINST MUD HENS 4-1

Toledo Starter Lambert Stymies Lehigh Valley Offense

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs had no answers for Toledo starting pitcher Chris Lambert who stifled the home teams’ bats as the IronPigs lost their second in a row to the Mud Hens 4-1.  Lambert (1-1), who was acquired by Detroit in last summer’s waiver deadline trade with St. Louis for LHP Mike Maroth, only allowed one run on a bases loaded walk to Andy Tracy in the third inning.  The Mud Hens right-hander scattered four hits and three walks over seven masterful innings from Coca-Cola Park.
Toledo fared much better against IronPigs starter Travis Blackley who dropped to 0-2 on the season after allowing three runs on five hits in his shortest outing of the season (4.2 innings).  The Mud Hens first got to Blackley in the third on an RBI single by Jeff Larish.  The 25-year old first baseman reached base three times against left-handed starter and drove in a pair of runs for Toledo.
The IronPigs tied the game on Tracy’s walk, but left the bases loaded when Valentino Pascucci fouled out to the catcher.  Tracy extended his streak of games with at least one RBI to four and went 2-for-4 in a losing effort.
Caonabo Cosme would give the visitors the lead to stay in the fourth when he took Blackley deep for his second home run of the season.  Cosme, who did not appear in the previous two games of the series went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and was just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Toledo added insurance runs on a Larish double that scored SS Erick Almonte in the fifth and RF Matt Joyce was plated on a sac fly by Cosme in the eighth.
The IronPigs’ last stand came in the ninth when a Pascucci lead-off single was followed by a Cervenak double to the rightfield corner with nobody out.  But Mud Hens closer Blaine Neal struck out Pierre-Luc LaForest, Brennan King and T.J. Bohn in order to end the game and preserve the victory for Toledo who improved to 9-5 on the season.  Neal has now saved five of the Mud Hens’ nine wins this year.
Bohn was in the starting lineup for the first time since Sunday and scored the only IronPigs’ run in addition to having two outfield assists from leftfield.  He gunned down Jackson Melian who was trying to score on a single by Cosme in the sixth – then hosed Melian again in the eighth trying to take third base on a shallow base hit to left.
The IronPigs conclude their eight-game homestand on Friday, April 18 with a 7:05 p.m. featuring Friday Night Fireworks presented by Chevrolet.  Also, a lucky fan will win a trip for two to Florida on Allegiant Airlines as part of Fly Away Friday presented by Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Make sure to tune into Matt Provence and Jon Schaeffer who will have all the action along the IronPigs Radio Network.  Coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. with the AT&T pre-game show on flagship station 90.3 FM WXLV, 95.1 HD-2 WZZO, “The Digital Home of the IronPigs, and 89.1 FM WYBF, “The Burn.”  The game will also be televised on the IronPigs Television Network powered by Service Electric Cable TV & Communications.
