IRONPIGS ANNOUNCE NEW FLAGSHIP STATION
Team Enters Three-Year Agreement with ESPN 1230-1320 AM
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Nassau Broadcasting have announced a three-year agreement making ESPN 1230-1320 AM the ‘Flagship Station’ of IronPigs baseball. The agreement, which goes through the 2011 season, makes ESPN 1230-1320 AM the source for live play-by-play coverage of all IronPigs preseason, regular season and postseason games, including extensive pre-game and post-game coverage. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“We are excited to join forces with ESPN 1230-1320 AM as both parties see this as a very logical partnership,” said Matt Provence, IronPigs Director of Media Relations & Broadcasting. “For us, the opportunity to collaborate with a 24-hour sports station and to attach ourselves to the very powerful letters ‘E-S-P-N’ seemed the best way to cater to our loyal and passionate fans. At the same time, we feel we offer a key component to a radio station committed to the local sports scene.”
Added ESPN 1230-1320 AM Program Director Tom Fallon: “We are thrilled to partner with an organization like the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. We believe this continues to show our 100% commitment to Lehigh Valley sports.”
ESPN 1230-1320 AM’s signal reaches the entirety of Lehigh, Northampton and Warren Counties with a potential to reach 642,000 adult listeners in the region. The station is dedicated to local sports, with exclusive coverage of Lehigh University athletics, Lehigh Valley Conference High School football and “The Happy Hour”, a popular daily call-in sports show. In addition to being a local sports leader, ESPN 1230-1320 AM carries live play-by-play coverage of New York Giants football and provides coverage of the entire NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament every March as well as the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl.
IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes added that he was both appreciative and thankful for the relationship the IronPigs had with WXLV 90.3 FM during the team’s inaugural season. WXLV 90.3 FM, a non-commercial station located on the campus of Lehigh Carbon Community College (Schnecksville, Pa.), had served as the Flagship of the IronPigs’ seven-station network in 2008.
The team announced it will continue to seek affiliates for the IronPigs Radio Network for 2009.
The return of professional baseball to the Lehigh Valley for the first time since 1960 was met with remarkable community support in 2008. By becoming one of just six Minor League franchises to surpass the 600,000 mark for total attendance, the IronPigs emerged as one of the top draws and premier franchises in Minor League Baseball. Coca-Cola Park drew rave reviews for its intimate, fan-friendly atmosphere and architectural design. Bolstered by the success of Coca-Cola Park and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the International League also established a single-season attendance record this year, breaking the seven-million fan threshold (7,097,411) for the first time in the league’s 125-year history.
