TRACY'S BLAST GIVES PIGS 4-3 WIN OVER SOX

Tracy's Blast Gives Pigs 4-3 Win Over Sox
Carpenter Strong In Six Innings To Pick Up Win
Andy Tracy’s two out, two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning proved to be the difference, as the IronPigs got off to a good start in Pawtucket, and took the opening game of their three game series against the Pawsox with a 4-3 win on Friday evening in front of 14,182 fans at McCoy stadium.
Tracy, back for his second season with the IronPigs, finished the game 1-3, but the one hit, the key to the IronPigs win, as it was Tracy’s homer which broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth.
The Pawsox got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second courtesy of a Sean Danielson RBI double to center.  The lead, however, was short lived as the Pigs got on the board in the top of the third thanks to CF Rich Thompson.
Thompson, who entered the game off to a hot start to the 2009 season, started things off in the third when he roped a ground-rule double to right which would plate J.J. Furmaniak to put the Pigs on the board, and give them a 1-1 tie. And after shortstop Jason Donald was hit by a pitch, things would be set for DH Mike Cervenak.
Cervenak, who had his twelve game hit streak (combined from last season) snapped last night, started a new one tonight, as he would come through with an RBI single to plate the speedy Thompson, giving the Pigs their first lead of the game, as they were up by a score of 2-1. Cervenak, who was promoted to Philadelphia last season from Lehigh Valley, has now hit in seven of the first eight games of the season.
The lead, though, would not last long, as in the bottom of the third, it was Sox DH Paul McAnulty who would change the score with one swing of the bat. McAnulty, facing Pigs starter Drew Carpenter (1-0), launched a solo shot with one out to make it a 2-2 ballgame. The homer, was the first on the season for McAnulty.
Thanks to Andy Tracy’s homer, and some solid middle relief from Mike Koplove and Jake Woods, the Pigs held on for their first win of the season in their first try against the Pawsox. Last year, the Pigs only won one of sixteen games against Pawtucket, the worst record against any of their opponents all seasony.
Carpenter finished allowing three runs, and seven hits in six solid innings of work to notch his first win of the season. Gary Majewski, who tossed two shutout innings of yesterdays game, was back to close things out in the ninth. Majewski got out of trouble and held on for the first IronPigs save of the season – it was also the first save opportunity of the year.
The IronPigs will be back at it again tomorrow, taking on the Pawsox in game two of their four game series. The Pigs will hand the ball to RHP Rodrigo Lopez (0-1, 5.40 ERA) as he looks for his first win of the year. Lopez will be opposed by RHP Marcus McBeth (1-0, 0.00 ERA). Matt Provence will have the call beginning at 12:35 p.m. for the AT&T pre-game show on the IronPigs Radio Network, ESPN Radio 1230-1320 AM. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 as the IronPigs look to make it two straight.
