'Wings Fly Past 'Pigs 6-3, Win Second Straight

'WINGS FLY PAST 'PIGS IN 6-3 VICTORY
BOX SCORE
Rochester DH Jose Morales' go-ahead RBI single in the top of the fifth inning off 'Pigs starter Rodrigo Lopez, proved to be the difference, as the Red Wings went on for a 6-3 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in front of a sold-out crowd at Coca-Cola Park.
Rochester RHP Jason Jones (1-4, 5.94) tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits to record his first victory of 2009. Red Wings' reliever Mike Gosling, who recorded the victory in last night's game, pitched a scoreless ninth to record his first save of the season. The win for Rochester, was their second straight against Lehigh Valley in 2009, and sixth straight overall, dating back to last season.
In the fourth inning, with the 'Pigs trailing the Red Wings 3-0, the offense ignited for the first time on Saturday evening. With two outs, and Pablo Ozuna on second base, Miguel Cairo stepped to the plate against Jones. Cairo, who homered for the first time in 851 at-bats on May 28 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY, launched a two-run home run into the left field bullpen to put the 'Pigs on the scoreboard. Now, with the 'Pigs trailing the Red Wings 3-2, David Newhan, the next batter, hit his third home run of the season to tie the game at 3-3. The back-to-back home runs for Cairo and Newhan marked the second-time this season IronPigs' hitters have gone back-to-back.
With the game tied 3-3, Lopez (2-3, 5.36) failed to hold the Red Wings from scoring, as the Mexican native allowed two more runs along the way, both in the fifth inning. After allowing back-to-back singles, to begin the inning, Lopez allowed a one-out go-ahead single to Morales, which made it a 4-3 game. Next batter Justin Huber grounded into a 5-4 forceout, which plated Tommy Watkins from third base to make it a 5-3 game.
In the top of the sixth inning, Phillies reliever J.C. Romero entered the game for the IronPigs. Romero, who is on a rehab assignment, allowed a leadoff double to Steve Tolleson to begin the inning. Tolleson ended up scoring, when Matt Macri grounded into a double play, to make it a 6-3 Red Wings lead. Romero, who will start tomorrow's game, allowed one run on two hits. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.
The IronPigs failed to score the rest of the way, as they were blanked by Rochester relievers Juan Morillo (1.1 innings), Bobby Keppel (1 inning), and Mike Gosling (1 inning). The win moves Rochester over the .500 win percentage, as they stand at 24-23 on the season. With the loss, Lehigh Valley drops to 19-29 on the season.
In game three on Sunday afternoon, LHP J.C. Romero will make the start for Lehigh Valley in his last rehab appearance before he makes his season-debut for the Phillies sometime in the upcoming week.
Taking the ball for the Red Wings on Sunday, will be Kevin Mulvey (2-2, 3.75). Mulvey, who was acquired from the New York Mets in the Johan Santana trade, allowed two runs over seven innings in his last outing on May 26 against the Durham Bulls.
