'PIGS WIN SECOND-STRAIGHT GAME, BEAT YANKS 9-1
Andy Tracy Launches Fourth Home Run In Two Days
BOX SCORE
Kyle Kendrick was sharp on the mound -- Andy Tracy was the offensive star again.
Tracy homered for the fourth time in two days, Kendrick tossed six solid innings, and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees for the second-straight day on Friday evening with a 9-1 romping of the I.L. North Division leaders in front of a soldout capacity crowd of 10,000 fans at Coca-Cola Park.
After winning game two of their doubleheader on Thursday evening, the 'Pigs came out on Friday evening looking to do something they never have done against the Yankees -- win back-to-back games. In fifteen games against the Yankees this season, the 'Pigs were just 5-10, but looked to go out on a winning note and looked to Kendrick and a red-hot Tracy to do so.
Kendrick (7-7, 3.45) allowed just one run and three hits over six marvelous innings en route to his first win since July 16. The start for Kendrick on Friday was his twenty-second of the year and one of his most consistent. Kendrick, a native of Texas, was helped out by another big day at the dish from Tracy, who finished 3-4 with a home run and three RBI's.
Lehigh Valley (60-66) belted out eleven hits in the finale, six against Yankees' starter Romulo Sanchez (4-5, 4.71), who lost for the third-straight game. Sanchez, a native of Venezuela, allowed three runs, three walks over just four and 1/3 innings of work. Activated off the disabled list before the game, Sanchez is now 1-4 with a 7.15 ERA in seven road appearances (five road starts).
While Tracy was the hero again offensively for the 'Pigs in the finale, Lehigh Valley also received some good offensive performances from a few other starters. Jason Ellison and Mike Cervenak each had two hits in the 'Pigs sixth victory over the Yankees in 2009. 'Pigs center fielder Rich Thompson also chipped in with a 1-4 night at the plate. Thompson, the team leader in stolen bases, added to his lead, swiping his twenty-fifth of the season. The stolen base for Thompson was one of three IronPigs steals on the evening -- Ellison and Newhan each stole a base.
The IronPigs will now be on the road to Pawtucket as they get set to begin a four-game series with the PawSox. In game one on Saturday evening, the IronPigs will send LHP Gustavo Chacin (7-3, 3.47). Taking the mound for the PawSox in the opening game will be RHP Adam Mills (0-1, 7.88).
Matt Provencene and Jon Schaeffer will have the call beginning at 5:35 p.m. for the AT&T pre-game show on the IronPigs Radio Network, ESPN Radio 1230-1320 AM.
