Lehigh Valley (70-73) began the day, as did the Bisons, with a reliever to start the game. Joe Bisenius, who started due to the Phillies' promotion of Kyle Kendrick, was outstanding over three scoreless innings. Bisenius, a 26-year-old righty, who was making his first start since June 5, 2005, impressed on the hill. He allowed just one hit and fanned two, while tossing 27 pitches -- 23 for strikes.
The IronPigs' next two pitchers, Jake Woods and Pat Overholt, combined to throw four innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Woods, who tossed 1/3 of an inning yesterday, entered in the fourth frame and allowed just oen run on two hits. Overholt, who was promoted from Reading (AA) earlier in the day, allowed just two hits in his two innings of work.
Steven Register (2-3, 3.70), who was designated for assignment earlier in the week by Philadelphia, entered the game in the top of the ninth with the IronPigs ahead by a score of 2-1. Register allowed back-to-back singles to begin the inning and two batters later, a big three-run home run to Jason Dubois, which gave the Bisons a 4-2 advantage.
Offensively for Lehigh Valley, Cervenak lead the way for the second-straight night. The Michigan native ripped four hits for the second night in a row, raising his avergage to .307 on the season with one game left to play. With another big day at the plate -- 3-4 with two RBI's and a triple short of the cycle, Cervenak has moved into sixth place in the I.L. in batting avergage. A 2009 I.L. All-Star, cervenak is also now fifth in the I.L. in hits with 141.
On Monday, the IronPigs and Bisons will each play their final game of 2009. Lehigh Valley will send LHP Brian Mazone (1-6, 4.02) to the hill. Buffalo will send LHP Adam Pettyjohn (4-10, 4.20) to the mound.
