ANDY TRACY PROMOTED TO PHILADELPHIA
The Phillies added depth to their roster for a postseason run by purchasing the contract of IronPigs veteran 1B Andy Tracy, the club announced today. Tracy will be in uniform when the Phillies continue a series against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
Right-hander Rodrigo Lopez was released from the 40-man roster to clear a space for Tracy.
Tracy, 35, was one of the most productive hitters in the I.L. this season, ranking among the league leaders in a handful of offensive categories, including home runs (2nd, 26), RBI (2nd, 96) and runs scored (4th, 76). Tracy’s 26 round-trippers reset his own team-record for home runs in a season -- the most by a Phillies Triple-A player since 1989.
At the season’s midway point, Tracy was named to the Triple-A All-Star Game for the first time since 2000 following a torrid month of June, during which he hit .302 with six home runs and 24 RBI. He also scored 25 runs, belted 10 doubles and was issued 18 walks during his prolific June play.
An original member of the IronPigs, Tracy batted .288 during the club’s inaugural season and paced the team with both 22 home runs and 85 RBI. He was also named the Phillies’ Minor League Player of the Month last June, hitting .446 with four homers and 18 RBI. Tracy also played in four games for the Phillies last season – his first Major League action since 2004.
The Bowling Green, Ohio, native is currently hitting .250 and leads the team in games played (122); home runs (24); RBI (88) and walks (70).
Additional accolades for Tracy include being named the first IronPigs player in franchise history to be selected to the 2009 International League postseason All-Star Team.
The Phillies also recalled LHP Sergio Escalona from Double-A Reading for his sixth stint with the Phillies this season. He had combined to go 2-3 with 14 saves and a 3.13 ERA in 47 games between Reading and Lehigh Valley.
Excitement is rapidly building for the 2010 season at Coca-Cola Park as the IronPigs will host the Triple-A All-Star Game presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network on July 14 that will be televised live to a national audience on MLB Network for the first time ever. The Triple-A All-Star Game – played annually since 1988 – features the top players of all 30 Major League team’s top affiliates as the International League and the Pacific Coast League All-Stars square off in a head-to-head contest.
2010 All-Star ticket packages, consisting of tickets to “Pigapalooza” All-Star Fan Fest (Saturday, July 10 at Coca-Cola Park), the Triple-A Home Run Derby (Monday, July 12) and the Triple-A All-Star Game (Wednesday, July 14), are now on sale to existing and new full-season ticket holders, 36-game holders and 18-game partial plan holders that renew or purchase season tickets and the All-Star Game package by October 9, 2009.
